Spread Halloween Cheer with a “You’ve Been Boo’d” Gift Tradition

October is a fantastic month, signaling the start of the most anticipated time of year! As the leaves change and a cooler breeze sets in, we know it’s time for months filled with exciting holidays, cherished traditions, thoughtful gestures, and an abundance of joy and love. It’s truly a magical season!

One of our family’s favorite traditions during this special time revolves around the fun of being a secret gift giver. There’s something uniquely delightful about giving Halloween Gifts anonymously. Is it the excitement of trying to avoid detection? The quiet thrill of performing a kind deed unnoticed? Whatever it is, we absolutely love it.

This October, we’re embracing the heartwarming Halloween tradition of “You’ve Been Boo’d.” It’s a fantastic way to share the spirit of Halloween with your neighbors and friends through a fun and engaging halloween gift exchange.

What is “You’ve Been Boo’d”?

If you’re new to this delightful tradition, the concept is simple and sweet. You prepare a halloween gift or treat for someone and secretly deliver it to their doorstep. The catch? They shouldn’t know who the gift is from! Along with the surprise, you include instructions for them to “pay it forward” by “booing” someone else. It’s a wonderful way to spread Halloween cheer throughout your community and a unique take on halloween gift giving.

The traditional method of “Boo’ing” often involves including a printed sheet with instructions and tags that the recipient is supposed to photocopy to continue the chain. These tags typically say “You’ve Been Boo’d” and “We’ve Been Boo’d.”

However, this traditional approach has always seemed a bit impractical. What if the recipient doesn’t have easy access to a copier? And let’s be honest, those copied sheets often end up looking faded and low-quality by the time they circulate.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the value of a halloween gift isn’t about how fancy it looks. But, personally, I find the act of giving much more enjoyable when the presentation is also appealing. 😉

Let me clarify – any halloween gift my family receives is always appreciated and cherished, no matter how simple. But when I’m the one giving a halloween gift, part of my joy comes from making it look nice. It’s not about impressing the recipient; it’s about the personal satisfaction I get from creating something special.

So, handing over a grainy, black and white photocopy just doesn’t feel quite right. I always ended up creating my own, nicer tags to pass on.

This led me to think – surely there’s a better, more convenient way to keep this fun tradition going without burdening each recipient with the task of finding a copier and dealing with subpar prints. We need a method that makes spreading halloween gifts and cheer effortless and enjoyable.

Introducing a Streamlined “Boo’ing” Method

I came up with a super cute and practical alternative! Instead of making each person print copies, why not create a “Pass It On” envelope filled with pre-printed tags? This eliminates the hassle for the recipient and feels like a much more thoughtful approach than giving a halloween gift accompanied by a printing chore! 🤣

It seems like such an obvious solution, yet I hadn’t seen it done this way before. It was time for a change!

And because, as I mentioned, I love adding a touch of cuteness, I designed a fun tag and envelope set specifically for this “You’ve Been Boo’d” tradition. This set makes it incredibly easy and enjoyable to pass along the Halloween fun and halloween gifts. I know, I can’t help myself! I just love making things a little extra special. 😂

Getting Started with the “Boo’ing” Fun

Want to spread some Halloween joy in your neighborhood with delightful halloween gifts? Here’s how to do it using this easy method:

  1. Download and print the FREE Halloween gift giving printable set (available below).
  2. Assemble the envelope. Instructions are included in the printable kit, but it’s essentially folding along the lines and taping the sides to create an envelope. Remember to only tape the sides, leaving the top flap open! 😉
  3. Print multiple pages of the tags and cut them out individually. The more tags you print, the longer the “Boo’ing” chain can continue. But don’t worry if someone runs out; the envelope includes instructions on how to print more.
  4. Place the tags inside the envelope, keeping one “You’ve Been Boo’d” tag separate for your initial halloween gift. I find it helpful to paperclip the “You’ve Been Boo’d” tags and “We’ve Been Boo’d” tags into separate groups for easy access.
  5. Prepare a special Halloween treat or small halloween gift for someone you think could use a little holiday cheer, and attach the single “You’ve Been Boo’d” tag to it.
  6. Secretly deliver your halloween gift, along with the “Pass It On” envelope filled with extra tags, to your chosen recipient’s doorstep.
  7. Watch the Halloween fun spread!

It’s incredibly simple to share some Halloween love and create a ripple effect of joy with these halloween gifts! I’m excited to start this tradition with my kids this year. I know we’ll have a blast sneaking around to deliver our “Boo’s”. And while seeing the happiness it brings to others is wonderful, the greatest joy for me is witnessing the excitement and kindness in my children’s faces as they participate in spreading good cheer. It’s truly priceless. 🧡

Happy Fall, Everyone!
